Greetings and salutations!  My name is Dr. Michael S. Bass.  I’m a PhD Candidate at Georgia State University in the Film, Media and Theatre Department – specifically in the Moving Image Studies track.  My focus, as well as my passion, lies in Film – analysis, representation and meaning, aesthetics, cultural studies, industry studies, national and international film histories, etc.  I have a Bachelors Degree in Communication and Media Studies, a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy, a Masters Degree in Film, Video & Digital Imaging, and a PhD in Moving Image Studies.  My recent work situates itself within areas such as hyperrealism and simulacra, meta-cinema, historical representation, Japanese Cinema, West African Cinema, cinema and the cyborg, dream cinema, and “deconstructing” Disney animated films.  My recently completed dissertation is entitled “Monstrous Nostalgia: Hypermodern Longing, The American Gothic Nightmare, and the Cinema of the Undead Past”.
